Fire – A Tranquil Kupala Night by the Białka River (Podhale) and Testing the Live View Composite Function on the New Lumix S1RII.

In the spirit of the Polish Midsummer Night, known as Noc Świętojańska or Noc Kupały—a celebration akin to Midsummer festivals in Anglo-Saxon countries and the United States—I spent a peaceful evening by the Białka River in the Podhale region.

This night, traditionally marked by bonfires, music, and rituals celebrating the summer solstice, has its counterparts in Midsummer’s Eve or St. John’s Eve in English-speaking cultures.

During this magical night, I also tested the Live View Composite function on the Lumix S1RII camera. For those unfamiliar, this feature is similar to classic long exposure photography, but it is decidedly superior. It allows you to build up an image over time by combining only the changes in the scene, resulting in clearer and more controlled night shots—perfect for capturing the unique atmosphere of Kupala Night.

Alongside the higher resolution sensor (compared to my old Lumix S5), this function was the main reason for purchasing this camera. I sincerely recommend Lumix cameras to all fans of night photography and to anyone who enjoys or experiments with light.
